Should you wish to attend ATS for therapeutic intervention, you should contact the office and let them know you would like to access occupational therapy. They will gather some information in relation to your child and circumstances around the referral. Your child will be matched with a therapist suited to their needs, and you will be offered a time-slot which is convenient to you when one becomes available. Your weekly appointments will be scheduled for the same time and day for the duration of the block of intervention. If your child underwent an occupational therapy assessment prior to starting intervention, a certain number of sessions may have been recommended in the assessment report. The duration of intervention depends on individual needs and can vary from 15 sessions (approximately 3 months) to therapeutic intervention of longer durations, such as 26 sessions (approximately 6 months) or longer.
After the recommended intervention period is completed your child’s therapist will review with you the progress made and discuss whether further intervention or discharge is warranted, depending on attainment of therapeutic goals and client wishes. Following discharge you will receive a discharge report.
Not necessarily, but it is possible. This will greatly depend on several factors including availability of the therapist and your own availability to attend on certain days or times. Because of specific training, education, etc. we may also suggest a specific therapist. Unless it is otherwise recommended, a specific therapist will carry out the entire intervention program. You should also keep in mind that all of our therapists are highly trained and participate in continuing education opportunities.
Having an official diagnosis is not a requirement for accessing intervention at our clinic. However, having a completed assessment can provide very useful information to help guide intervention. We accept assessments that have been carried out in different clinics and by your local health services. Sending copies of these reports to us ahead of intervention would be most helpful.
In order to ensure the best outcomes we encourage attendance of every appointment. If however a cancellation cannot be avoided we do have to apply a cancellation charge of €50. If the appointment can be re-scheduled within the same week there is no charge.
The child should wear comfortable clothing and footwear as they will be required to engage in movement based activities.
Parents will be required to complete questionnaires and other documentation for the purpose of the assessment. They can complete these while the child is engaging one-to-one with the examiner.
Assessments are typically carried out in the morning time and may last up to 3 hours.
Parents will be given verbal feedback on the day of the assessment and then furnished with a written report sometime afterwards.
Files are retained for a period of seven years after the last service is provided by the clinic or for seven years after the clients 18th birthday, if the client was under the age of eighteen years at the time of treatment.
